IMail Lists, LISTSERV Lists |
IMail and LISTSERV Lists have been experiencing intermittent delays in the delivery of list mail, as well as some non-deliveries, during the past few weeks. This is not because the list server has been down, or any individual lists have been down, or the list server is not promptly sending copies of posts to subscribers.
The reason for the delivery problems is that many receiving mail servers (i.e. list subscribers' mail hosts/ISPs) have been deferring (temporarily refusing to deliver) or rejecting mail sent from our new mail server. It is often taking as many as 50 delivery attempts before a receiving mail server will accept a particular post. This is a result of
- the quantity of bulk list mail being sent worldwide from our server;
- the misidentification of much of that mail as spam; and
- the recent change in our mail server's IP address.
When we migrated to the new web server, we lost more than 10 years of positive mailing history on our old IP address. It was not possible to retain the old IP address.
While we continue to do everything in our power to improve deliveries of list mail, much needs to be done by the list administrators. THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM WE CAN SOLVE ON OUR OWN. Please review the Best Practice Guidelines" for things list administrators need to do in order to resolve the delivery problems for their lists. |

IMail Lists, WebHelps WebMail and POP3/SMTP Email, Chatterbox - Server Migration |
The server migration was completed this afternoon. The new IP address for IMail Lists using their own domain/subdomain without a dedicated IP address is 174.141.228.16. We also recommend you create an MX Record for your domain/subdomain that points to mail.whathelps.com. If you are using a dedicated IP address with your IMail List domain/subdomain, contact us for the new IP address. If you are using custom subscription forms for your list, please review the updated instructions in the LISTSERV Help Center or IMail Help Center as changes will be needed to your forms and to any "error" or "success" pages you are using. |
